Patty Butler Spiers, President & CEO

Patty is a broadcast journalist and historian. Currently she researches, writes, and produces freelance feature stories for National Public Radio, and was awarded a first place for such a story during 2002 by The Communicator Awards. Recently she worked as the News Director, Producer and News Anchor at KCSJ in Pueblo, Colorado. She also did extended feature stories and hosted the innovative news magazine radio program "Sunday Southern Colorado" which the Colorado Broadcasters Association recognized as Best Entertainment Program for 2002.

 She has worked in radio since 1996 and have earned two Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards as well as five awards from the Colorado Broadcasters Association and four from the Associated Press including awards for General Reporting (Associated Press 2001), documentary (Associated Press 2001), Investigative Reporting, (Associated Press 2002) and Best Feature (Colorado Broadcasters Association 2001).

She was born in Texas, has lived in Colorado for more than twenty years and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recording Arts (1994) and a Masters Degree in Philosophy of History (1998).  Her radio career started in Montgomery, Alabama when she took a course from Auburn, radio production.

She has extensive experience in talk radio starting in 1996 as co-host of the women's talkshow "Anything Goes" on KVOR.  From 1997 through 2000 she co-hosted the award winning "Friday Edition" with Richard Randall on KVOR. It was the top rated local talk show in southern Colorado. The show earned several awards from the Associated Press and The Colorado Broadcasters Association.  Several times it was awarded "Best of The Springs" recognition from newspapers like The Gazette, and The Independent.  She have also been a substitute morning show host and host of a community affairs program on KVOR in Colorado Springs.

She is also very involved in film and television production. She was the producer of the children's adventure film "Trackers" which earned an AXIEM Award - Absolute Excellence In Electronic Media in 1999 and was showcased in The Gold Camp Film Festival.  It was also awarded a "Telly" award in 2003.  As a commercial television producer she has earned several awards including Best of Show from the Pikes Peak Advertising Federation.

Patty enjoys reading, music, the arts, and history.  She loves to combine her media talents with her history background and is currently working on several history-based radio, television, and film documentaries.  Her real interest is short documentaries using unconventional interviews.  Her particular focus is recording the voices of WWII veterans who flew the old bombers, B-17, B-24s. But recording anything that will be obsolete in her lifetime is of great value her.
