“Buffalo Soldiers Forever” is From Mists of Time’s fourth historical documentary. In 1866 the United States Congress created four “colored regiments.” For the first time in the history of America, the United States Army officially welcomed African American men into the Cavalry and Infantry. The regiments were nick named “the Buffalo Soldiers” by the plains Indians because of their strength and their coarse hair.
While this started out as an experiment, the black men performed fighting, scouting, mail transport against hostile Indians, building of telegraph lines, opening new territories and much more. They received over 30 Medal of Honors and yet very few average Americans even know who the are. Help us change that as we raise funds for a group of short educational videos for high schools.
