One Christmas Eve, more than 40 years ago, photographer O. Winston Link had the foresight to capture pictures of one of the last steam locomotives to run on the N & W Railroad. Before Link died earlier this year, he spoke with Patty Butler Spiers about the pictures and his inspired idea to record the sound of the train as it passed through a small Virginia town.
